Cape Town Smile Studios is known for restoring excessive damage to teeth due to grinding. Many dental practioners would prefer to restore the damage using expensive porcelain crowns. This case was done in 2002, and the restorations are still functioning perfectly.
NOVEMBER 2002: The upper front teeth show the first signs of excessive wear. Most of the physical damage was on the chewing surface (occlusal) of the teeth.
The damage as seen on the left upper teeth.
Excessive wear on the occlusal surfaces of the teeth can be seen.
Restoration of the occlusal surfaces with composite. The blue dots on the occlusal surfaces are remnants of the process to check the bite pattern.
Immediately after the restoration of the teeth (2002). Some of the composite residue resulting from the polishing (not completed) is seen as a white spot on the upper gum. The back teeth had to be restored first, in order to provide space for the material on the front teeth.
SEPTEMBER 2004: As he is an international patient, regular check-ups were not possible. All the restorations are still perfect.
JULY 2009 check-up. Virtually no material has been lost on the front of the teeth. Some slight discoloration is evident, which was easily removed during the routine polishing of the teeth.
The length of the teeth are still perfect.
What is evident is some wear on the composites placed on the back teeth. After 7 years these now need some maintenance.
