WHY MUST A MISSING TOOTH BE REPLACED?

In some cases a tooth might not be worth saving. In this case the tooth must be removed, and replaced with an appropriate false tooth.

It must be understood that teeth keep each other in their position – if one is lost, the remaining teeth start moving, and this in itself causes many problems later in life:

1. The opposing tooth will start to drift into the open space.

2. The adjacent teeth will fall /drift into the space, causing areas that cannot be cleaned, thus leading to tooth decay and / or gingivitis.

3. With all the drifting taking place the occlusion (the way the teeth bite) is disrupted which can lead to headaches, muscle and jaw joint aches, unexplained toothaches.

4. If the tooth that is missing is in the front of the mouth, the smile is affected.
